Why I Think Crime Happens in Bc.

It's no secret that drug related crimes happen in our province, just look on the news. But although we all know it's happening, do we know why?

Although violent crimes, robbery and harassment are on a steep decline, drug usage in BC is not following that pattern. Some believe that the only reason drug related crimes are going down a measly 2%, is due to the decrease of pot and cocaine usage, while the use of meth and heroin are skyrocketing. Although marijuana is a very popular drug, even with its legalization I would not anticipate a huge increase in usage in B.C. - if you're not inclined to use it while it's illegal, chances are you won't have much interest as soon as it's legal. What is surprising is the amount of people using cocaine and other hard drugs as mentioned earlier.

The province is in a state of panic due to how many over doses there has been recently- especially in Vancouver, which holds the record for the most drug related deaths in any other Canadian city... seems strange considering that Vancouver is the only place in all of North America to open a supervised injection site. Seems to me like that would only attract more people to use drugs. In addition, Vancouver is very often the first place major drug producing countries drop off their loads. Therefore, drugs are extremely potent while in the city, and spread throughout the province.

British Columbia seems to be the perfect place to get hooked on drugs. It seems backwards, but a  supervised injection site may be a step in the right direction. But B.C. is far from finding the most effective way to end illegal drug activity. In the past, efforts to end the war on drugs only created better opportunities to use drugs. By putting people in substandard housing and patting them down at every corner had obviously caused more problems and made it even more impossible for drug users to escape addiction. The lack of clean needles will obviously lead to more problems and revoking business licenses of drug users will obviously cause more problems. A major cause of heavy drug usage in our province is the way it was handled in the past.
